Dr Shirin Rahman, the driving force behind the organization, says:

When you educate a man you educate an individual; when you educate a woman you educate a whole family.

The educational programs aim at

  • Helping illiterate women learn how to read and write
  • Encouraging these newly literate women to become volunteers to educate other women in their respective localities
  • Increasing women’s awareness of their rights and responsibilities as citizens
  • Identifying meritorious girl students from poor families for award of scholarships
  • Providing non-formal education to adults and school dropouts
  • Implementing programs of Pratham, a unique experiment started in the slums by a Mumbai-based NGO
  • Implementing awareness camps to educate women on social issues such as domestic violence and dowry harassment
