“Income Generation Program:      There is no doubt that one of the important aims of development of the down trodden groups has been the removal of poverty amongst these groups. Income Generation Programmes are playing a vital role in alleviating the poverty in terms of making the poor to a sustainable environment and to lead their lives in a better condition. Chaitanya sravanthi has learned from its vast experience that economical sustainability doesn’t happen if we support the poor or down trodden by supporting them day by day. Instead it is important that making them strong in generating income and so designed various activities which generate income in a sustainable method.
The Prime objective of the Chaitanya Sravanthi is “To empower women to become economically independent and assertive in playing an important role in the decision making- process along with their men folk.”  So Chaitanya Sravanthi  has followed the strategy of Inviting partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations & making best use of available resources that worked. We focused on marginalised groups like PLHIVs and women infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Here under are the some of the activities took under income generation program with partnered NGOs.
PSI requested Chaitanya Sravanthi to provide IGP support for PLHIVs under the Income Generation Program (IGP). They came forward to distribute goods, (which generate income) to HIV positive persons.

  • This is to enable the HIV positive person to earn a monthly source of income and at the same time to pay back a part of the cost incurred in buying the item. They should repay the amount to SVNP so that it can be utilized for other PLHIVs for generation of income.
  • They should repay the minimum amount to SVNP+ so that it can be utilized for other PLHIVs for generation of income.
  • Chaitanya Sravanthi distributed assets worth Rs. 60,000, consisting of sewing machines, coin boxs and wet grinder to PLHIV (People Living With HIV/AIDS).
  • Chaitanya Sravanthi donated Rs. 6000/- to educate 12 HIV affected children and if they are continue their studies wants to support in future also
  • Chaitanya Sravanthi requested Lions Club, Visakhapatnam to provide nutritional support for PLHIVs and PSI facilitated the entire discussion with Chaitanya Sravanthi, Lions Club and SVNP+. They accepted the proposal for 10 PLHIVs and agreed to give every month a bag of 10 kg rice, 1 kg oil and 1 kg dal worth of Rs. 300/- for each PLHIV.
  • Recently PSI requested Chaitanya Sravanthi to provide lunch for PLHIVs under the All Services under one roof programe conducted by PSI on every month 24th with the collaboration of Society of Visakha Positive Net work and other NGO’s. They came forward to provide lunch for two months worth Rupees 5000/- to HIV positive persons.
  • Chaitanya Sravanthi is taking initiative to provide any type of support to PSI and other NGO’s.

The support provided by Chaitanya Sravanthi has been tremendous and enormous in lifting up the financial status of these persons. Now, many of them are able to earn their livelihood pretty well and able to save some money for their children also.

Key Achievement: Collective income generation units run by Chaitanya Sravanthi like Jute products, tamarind grading and bill collection centre have been successful and inspiring.
