Awareness and counseling:
Objective: To work towards better health and to establish a healthy society in focus on women and youth at the slums. One of the core objectives of Chaitanya Sravanthi is to empower women in all aspects and to help them in gain capacities to contribute themselves in building a better society by alleviating the poverty.
Chaitanya Sravanthi is conducting various awareness programs in regular intervals to its women groups and leaders and running campaigns on various social issues like alcohol, corruption, environmental pollution and seasonal health hazards like swine flu etc….this type of rallies or campaigns not only making aware to the internal members of the organization but also opening the eye of the public to think towards the issue.
Chaitanya Sravanthi is regularly conducting medical camps with the support of other NGOs and doctors to bring awareness to its members and also some health checkups were also done in such type of camps. Information about the conduct of health awareness sessions and camps is widely canvassed by the organization well in advance. These sessions and camps are organized in coordination with the community keeping their time and other constraints in mind. Through these activities , Organization ensures that such programs reach maximum number of the people.
General and specific awareness and healthy check up camps with focus on diseases like cancer, High blood pressure (BP), Diabetes (SUGAR), HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, Swine Flu (H1N1), Thyroid testing and treatment, ill effects of alcohol and counseling to alcoholics are few to name.
Apart from those health related awareness camps, we also striving to bring awareness on environmental issues like pollution and social issues like corruption are being conducted in the process of building a better society for the next gen.
There has been regular involvement of District collector, GVMC commissioner, Mayor, Senior Doctors from health dept and other experts in these programs. Organization also collaborates with NGOs to conduct such awareness programs in the desired community.
Case Study:
Motherhood is one of the most exciting phases in a woman’s life. But for Vijay the president of Gruhalakshmi MACTs it is remaining a dream in her married life. Ms. Vijaya and her husband both were not well educated and they came from a much known slums of Visakhapatnam. For them the days were more anxious since they got married and a period of six years is too long to have a child and they become so depressed by not knowing for not having pregnancy. There are the times they are feeling embarrassed to face the society for not having a child. In one of our health camps, Vijay got checked for thyroid and she is found to have thyroid in that health camp. The organization properly guided her for treatment and been treated with the help of ABBOTT Laboratories for a period and now Vijay and her husband are busy in playing with the newly born child and finally they are very much happy with the organizations activities.
The Organization has conducted awareness generating programmes and counseling sessions at regular intervals to the member. The members were made aware about the poverty elevation programmes of both central and state governments. Meetings were conducted to make members aware of their fights and legal provisions available to them.
